Ceramic Veneers

A young man smiling showing off his ceramic veneersYour smile is not only integral to your self-confidence, but to how others perceive you as well. If your teeth have minor imperfections that make you want to cover up your smile, Central Dental Specialists can help. We offer high-quality ceramic veneers that will give you a beautiful, confidence boosting smile in just two office visits.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin covers that are bonded in place over your natural teeth. They are used to cover up cosmetic imperfections such as discrepancies in tooth shape, size, or color, chipped or cracked teeth, gaps between teeth, and overlapping. They can also prevent serious consequences that could occur when issues like overlapping are not corrected.

Veneers are typically made from either resin or porcelain (ceramic), but porcelain is the more popular and recommended option. It is easier to match the color of your natural teeth with porcelain, and porcelain is also much stronger than resin – resin breaks easily, while porcelain veneers are durable enough to last 20 years or more.

What Are the Benefits of Ceramic Veneers?

Ceramic veneers are a permanent, natural-looking way to fix a variety of cosmetic concerns you may have about your smile. No one will know you have them, as the porcelain looks indistinguishable from natural teeth. Ceramic veneers are resistant to staining and discoloration, and they can resolve serious color issues that even professional whitening methods are unable to correct, such as discoloration caused by certain medications.

Veneers do not require invasive surgery, and they can be placed on one tooth or several. They are highly durable and will not interfere with your regular eating habits or oral hygiene routine. Most importantly, they will increase your confidence by providing you the smile you always wanted.

What to Expect

Before placing veneers, we need to prepare the tooth or teeth that will be covered up. Using a local anesthetic, we will remove some of the enamel on the front of your teeth, then take impressions that will be sent to a lab in order to custom-engineer your veneers. Once they are ready, you will come back to our office so we can check the fit and color, then bond the veneers in place. We use an acidic gel which helps the veneers adhere better to the surface of your natural teeth, and finish with dental cement.

How to Care for Ceramic Veneers

We will give you specific instructions for care and cleaning at the time of your appointment. With proper maintenance, ceramic veneers should last upwards of 15 to 20 years. It is important to stick to a consistent oral hygiene routine of brushing and flossing your teeth daily, and you should have regular dental checkups. Certain activities can diminish the lifespan of veneers, including brushing your teeth too hard, not practicing proper oral hygiene, consuming a lot of alcohol (as alcohol can dissolve the bonding), or even fingernail biting or using your teeth to open things (both of which can cause veneers to crack).
